The return of my blogger account?

I just purchased a new laptop, and it's not a Mac. Now I need to consider whether to go back to a web-based blog app like this one, or if I am going to make the move to WordPress. If anyone monitors this site -- let me know what you think!

Who's On First for the Next Generation

The following is courtesy of a work friend and I have no idea of the source... George: Condi! Nice to see you. What's happening? Condi: Sir, I have the report here about the new leader of China. George: Great. Lay it on me. Condi: Hu is the new leader of China. George: That's what I want to know. Condi: That's what I'm telling you. George: That's what I'm asking you. Who is the new leader of China? Condi: Yes. George: I mean the fellow's name. Condi: Hu. George: The guy in China. Condi: Hu. George: The new leader of China. Condi: Hu. George: The Chinaman! Condi: Hu is leading China. George: Now whaddya' asking me for? Condi: I'm telling you Hu is leading China. George: Well, I'm asking you. Who is leading China? Condi: That's the man's name. George: That's who's name? Condi: Yes. George: Will you or will you not tell me the name of the new leader of China? Condi: Yes, sir. George: Yassir? Yassir Arafat is in China? I thought he was in the Middle East. Condi: That's correct. George: Then who is in China? Condi: Yes, sir. George: Yassir is in China? Condi: No, sir. George: Then who is? Condi: Yes, sir. George: Yassir? Condi: No, sir. George: Look, Condi. I need to know the name of the new leader of China. Get me the Secretary General of the U.N. on the phone. Condi: Kofi? George: No, thanks. Condi: You want Kofi? George: No. Condi: You don't want Kofi. George: No. But now that you mention it, I could use a glass of milk. And then get me the U.N. Condi: Yes, sir. George: Not Yassir! The guy at the U.N. Condi: Kofi? George: Milk! Will you please make the call? Condi: And call who? George: Who is the guy at the U.N? Condi: Hu is the guy in China. George: Will you stay out of China?! Condi: Yes, sir. George: And stay out of the Middle East! Just get me the guy at the U.N. Condi: Kofi. George: All right! With cream and two sugars. Now get on the phone.

Anyone want to buy a nice truck, slightly used?

When you drive in the fog, you should drive slow, and leave plenty of room in front of you. If you don't, you may be lifted airborne and land in the bed of my husband's truck (pictured above) after being pummeled by a big rig truck. Definitely not fun.

Seattle Bound

Fresh from the Chanukah festivities at my neighborhood house of worship, I'm packing for my big trip to Seattle for Megan's lovely Ugly Cookie Party. I will try to live up to the standards of Ugly Cookie manufacture and I will link to some pictures when we're done. I'm going to miss my doggies and my husband, but I'm going shoe shopping with the Sister-in-law! Gotta pack (and print my southwest cattlecall boarding pass in less than and hour!)

Sick Day in My Jammies and Zeeba Feet

I woke up this morning feeling kind of crappy and after was all ready to go, I decided to call it a day before I headed out. I got back into my jammies and put on my Zebra slippers which the dogs know as my Zeeba feet (we don't say "r"s when we speak to the dogs -- Zero's name is Zewo in dogspeak). I was crashed out by 7:30. I woke up at 10 and have been lounging for most of the day. Daytime TV is horrible. I was going to try to read, but kept falling asleep. I did however make a major breakthrough in my efforts to access my work stuff remotely with my MAC. I've never been able to get it work before, but I figured it out today, so now when I telework I can be anywhere my laptop goes with a net connection. That's a pretty good deal. I might take my computer up to Seattle next weekend for Megan's Ugly Cookie Party. I'm trying to chill out for the rest of the day so I can get back to work tomorrow. There's too much to do and not enough time to do it....sound familiar?

The moratorium on purses

I definitely feel that a girl cannot have too many purses. My husband feels differently. When we met, I didn't even carry a purse. I just stuck my license and some cash in my pocket and I was out the door. Now that I'm a makeup-wearing, cell phone-carrying chickie, I need a purse. Not to mention my Franklin planner, pens, checkbook, big ass wallet, lotion, stuff I don't need, iPod, more stuff I don't need, extra Tylenol, etc. I've had a quest for the perfect purse, which I have never found. So I keep trying. My husband got so sick of purses lying around that he told me no more purses. Every now and then I sneak one into the rotation. This weekend my dad bought me this one: I decided it was okay if I got it as a gift. Mike disagrees.

Happy December

How did it get to be December? Geez. We've had literally freezing weather here for almost a week. It seems kind of early for that. I'm wondering how I ever survived in New England and New York for my first 23 years. I 'm always cold at work, so I have broken out the scarves and turtlenecks regardless of their fashion value or lack thereof. I'm still working on my holiday shopping. I have my brother to the north and my sister-in-law taken care of. We go my brother in the south's kids taken care of, but I have to get something for him and his wife. I have some stuff for worky people, but I am still developing my Christmas classic CD for them (something which has become a bit of a tradition, in just one year). My husband's stuff is all done, my dad is done, and we still have to get stuff for the names we drew for my husband's family and all of the crazy nieces and nephews. Blah blah. I have so much work to do in the house and for work it's crazy, but first I have to go to a wedding. Joy. Run run run. Have you ever seen The Last Samurai? I finally caught it on cable and to my surprise, I actually liked it.

Buying Local

Living in a small town really is different than living in the suburbs. Woodland isn't that small, but it's the kind of town that had a bustling downtown and economy centered around agriculture, and now that all the farm land is being developed into housing developments and shopping centers with Wal-Marts and Home Depots, the economy has changed and downtown has suffered. Recently, the city has done a great job of revitalizing downtown and I got to experience that change firsthand while wandering downtown with my really great sister-in-law Megan yesterday. First there was the Next Chapter bookstore, a fairly progressive bookstore that was so great that I posted their website in my links section of this blog. It's a great downhome independent bookstore and I even went back in there today. We also went to the Gifted Penguin, where I was able to find x-mas gifts for all kinds of people and a great welcome sign for my dad's new apartment. We also found a fabulous new restaurant called Tazzina Bistro, which is kind of a California cuisine cafe with French flair. We ate breakfast and dinner there last night with our out of town guests (if that's what I can call my brother and his wife, and my dad) and had brunch there this morning. I now have a restaurant in Woodland (other than Quiznos or mexican food) that I can frequent. I made a commitment to do all of my Christmas/Chanukah shopping locally. That means Woodland and Davis. Target counts too, but that's for the gift cards for out of town folks. Wish me luck. I'm supporting my city. It's the least I can do.
